Plant, Seed & Small Insect Incubators

Incubators have a wide range of uses in laboratory settings. From bacteria cultures to seedling planting, these incubators, made by Percival Scientific, can meet any number of different demands. Let Geneva Scientific help you grow the capabilities of your facility with a new refrigerated incubation chamber.

Controlled Conditions

One of the most important factors with any scientific experiment is achieving controlled, maintained and closed conditions. With an incubator from Geneva Scientific, you can do all that and more. Every unit is made with woodless construction and uses 2-inch-thick non-CFC Urethane insulation foamed in place on all walls to help maintain conditions inside the incubator. Units are also designed with door access that creates a tight seal using a magnetic gasket, ensuring that the environment outside the incubator doesn’t contaminate the conditions inside.

Temperature inside is controlled and maintained with a self-contained condenser unit mounted atop the incubator. This placement makes it easy to clean and maintain the system, and also allows for excess heat to easily dissipate upward and out of the unit into the ambient lab environment. The refrigeration system is also designed to run continuously, meaning that there is no interruption in temperature consistency inside the incubator. Ceiling-mounted fans ensure equal circulation inside the unit, while the continuously running refrigeration system helps prolong the life of the unit and eliminates the risk of ice buildup.

The incubator can also be kept as cool or warm as needed, with incubators capable of sustaining a wide range of temperatures. As manufactured, units can sustain conditions between 7 degrees C and 44 degrees C with lights on and as low as 2 degrees C without lighting. In addition, the included IntellusUltra controller helps to ensure any unplanned variations in conditions can be remedied quickly. Each incubator offers adjustable thresholds for temperature that trigger audible alarms and visual indications if they are exceeded. Additional settings can shut power off to the incubator until conditions return to acceptable levels.

Lighting and Humidity

Inside the unit, lighting and humidity control options allow for a range of customization to meet the needs of any experiment or project. Fluorescent lamps can be vertically and horizontally mounted at each shelf level to provide direct lighting where it’s needed. These lamps allow for as much as 115 µmol/m2/s at 6 inches, with lighting controlled by the IntellusUltra system allowing for a range of dimmable levels, programmed cycles and even varied control for just vertical or horizontal light sources.

Optional humidity controls allow you to keep moisture levels inside the chamber at a wide range of levels. The humidifier is also simple to manage and maintain, and is designed to connect directly to a demineralized water supply via a half-inch MPT connection. Extended humidity ranges can also be achieved with different add-on options, including dehumidifiers to create more arid conditions, as desired.

Adaptive and Versatile

Geneva Scientific offers a number of different configurations and styles of incubators as well, allowing you to choose the unit that best meets your specific needs. Interior space runs from 9.7 cubic feet for the smallest units up to 62.4 cubic feet for the largest, offering an abundance of space for any application. Units can also hold up to six tiers of shelving, depending on the size and configuration, allowing for a number of experiments or large-scale operations to be conducted with ease.

Percival Scientific also offers a wide range of additional options to customize incubator units for particular needs. Some of the most popular include the IntellusUltra Connect upgrade which allows for remote connection and Android tablet operation; glass doors or doors with observation Windows to allow your team to see experiments without needing to open the incubator, access ports or fresh air vents; phenolic coated coils to prevent corrosion in units used for drosophila research; dry alarm contacts to alert if conditions become too arid; and CO2 enrichment packages that can increase carbon dioxide levels to further encourage plant growth.
