Laboratory Hoods

Laboratory Hoods

Laboratory hoods are essential engineering controls designed to protect personnel, experiments, and the laboratory environment from hazardous vapors, particulates, and contaminants. They provide containment, airflow management, and physical barriers that ensure safety and compliance in modern research and industrial laboratories.

Key Benefits and Features:

Personnel Protection: Guards users against exposure to harmful chemicals, biological agents, and airborne hazards.
Containment: Prevents hazardous materials from entering the laboratory environment.
Airflow Management: Maintains proper ventilation and exhaust, ensuring a safe workspace.
Safety Barrier: Shields users from splashes, fires, and minor explosions through durable sash and enclosure designs.

Types of Laboratory Hoods We Offer

Biological Safety Cabinets (BSCs)
BSCs provide protection for both personnel and samples when working with biological materials. They are widely used in microbiology, virology, and pharmaceutical research. Different classes are available to meet various safety needs:

  • Class I BSCs – Protect personnel and the environment, but not the sample.
  • Class II BSCs – Protect personnel, the environment, and the sample through HEPA filtration.
  • Type A – Recirculating airflow with exhaust to the room.
  • Type B – Exhausts filtered air externally; suitable for combined chemical and biological work.
  • Class III BSCs – Fully enclosed, ventilated cabinets providing the highest level of containment for BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories.

Laminar Flow Cabinets
Laminar flow cabinets create a clean, particle-free workspace by directing filtered air in a uniform flow. They are primarily used for sample protection in sterile or contamination-sensitive applications:

  • Horizontal Laminar Flow Hoods – Air flows from the back to the front of the workspace.
  • Vertical Laminar Flow Hoods – Air flows from top to bottom, protecting the work surface and samples from contamination.

Safety Enclosures
Safety enclosures protect personnel from hazardous chemicals or processes, beyond biological risks. These include:

  • Enclosed Safety Cabinets – Contain hazardous operations such as weighing, mixing, or dispensing volatile chemicals.
