Plant Research and Pathology Chambers

Offering an optimal design for plant pathology studies and trials that involve plant inoculation, dew formation chambers available from Geneva Scientific are designed to create a warm, moist environment so that fast-growing plants can thrive and grow under ideal conditions, allowing you to achieve consistent research results.

Each dew formation chamber offers ample space to conduct a range of experiments. Inside there is 29.7 cubic feet of workable area, with 19.5 feet of storage across four shelving units. These stainless-steel wire shelves are mounted with adjustable shelf clips, allowing for height adjustments of half an inch. Plants can also be grown to a maximum height of 10.5 inches, allowing for healthy and full growth for most commonly grown plant samples.

Efficiently Designed

The dew formation chambers are also designed using energy-saving materials that help your operation run more effectively and efficiently. The interior uses both stainless steel and aluminum and is designed to stand up to repeated cleaning and disinfecting by a wide range of chemical sterilizers. The chambers are built using CFC-free insulation with an overall wall thickness of 2 inches, ensuring consistent climate conditions inside the unit. The units also feature a single 29.2 inch by 57.5 inch door, sealed with a magnetic gasket that allows full chamber access while ensuring a tight seal to minimize impact from the outside.

The walls also feature cooling plates that are meant to help absorb the heat radiated by plants growing inside the chamber. This helps to further ensure consistent growth conditions and uniform climate. The false ceiling in the chamber is also designed with condensation in mind, using a tapered design meant to prevent water droplets from settling only on plants on the top shelf. In addition, the chambers are built with adjustable legs that can help ensure a stable setup if there are any uneven floor conditions.

Climate Control and Management

Inside the unit, a range of technologies are used to establish and maintain the ideal growth conditions for your experiment. Airflow and circulation is designed to emulate a natural environment, with simulated airflow that helps ensure even exposure while establishing a uniform temperature throughout the chamber – particularly important during condensation periods.

Percival Scientific dew formation chambers also feature self-contained refrigeration units that allow for continuous compressor operation, ensuring optimal temperature inside no matter the conditions inside your lab. Mounted on the top of the unit, the refrigeration unit is designed using a hot gas bypass system that alternately cycles hot gas to coil and refrigerant, helping deliver a longer useful life for the compressor while mitigating the formation of ice. The unit also allows for absorbed heat inside to be dissipated easily through the unit into the room.

These chambers also include safety limit controls that allow for preset high and low temperature thresholds that must be maintained in the unit. If these conditions are exceeded, audible and visual indicator will trigger to alert staff. The controls can also activate alarms and shut power off to the chamber when conditions exceed allowable limits. Best of all, conditions can be managed, monitored and maintained using Percival’s IntellusUltra control system, which allows for flexible and simple management and customization.

Optional Packages

The dew formation chambers at Geneva Scientific can also be further customized to add a range of additional features. One of the most popular is the upgraded IntellusUltra Connect, which allows for remote management and can be integrated with an Android-based touchscreen system. Chambers can also be ordered with:

  • Door with observation window and cover
  • Self-contained water-cooled condensing unit
  • Contacts for dry alarming
  • Dimmable lights with closed- or open-loop control
  • Security options (locking door, power switches, dry alarm contacts)
  • Additional access ports
  • Temperature recording
  • Additional shelving
