Dew Formation Chamber - I-36D

This Percival® Scientific Dew Formation Chamber is ideal for conducting plant pathology research studies. The dew chamber simulates the natural elements to achieve the best conditions for dew formation. By causing the plants to radiate energy to the chamber heat sink, the plants are maintained below the dew point of air, resulting in natural dew formation on the plants. The functionality of the chamber is easily controlled via the Percival® IntellusUltra controller, allowing users to customize the chamber conditions to best meet their research needs.

  • Natural air flow provides temperature uniformity during the dew deposition period.

Cabinet Construction

  • Interior constructed of stainless steel and aluminum with non-corrosive features that will resist chemical cleaning and disinfecting
  • Walls covered with stainless steel cooling plates to absorb radiated heat from plants (the false ceiling is tapered to prohibit drops of water from settling on plants on the top shelf)
  • Contains caster assembly and adjustable leveling legs to compensate for floor unevenness in the lab
  • Cabinet does not contain access ports on the side of the chamber


  • Woodless construction using CFC free insulation (overall wall thickness is 2”, ample insulation for maintenance of stated temperature range)


  • One door opening of 29.2” x 57.5” providing full access to chamber interior (magnetic gasket provides a tight seal to door frame)

Interior Space

  • 29.7 cu.ft. with work area of 19.5 sq.ft. provided on four shelves


  • One tier of white epoxy coated steel wire shelving (shelf is 27.5”D x 25.5”W)
  • Shelf is supported by shelf clips allowing 1/2” vertical adjustments
  • Maximum growing height is 10.5” provided on four tiers

Lighting System

  • Contains working light controlled by the IntellusUltra controller


  • Interior and exterior painted with high reflective, environmentally friendly, high temperature baked white powder coating


  • Self-contained air-cooled condensing unit with hot gas bypass system for continuous compressor operation, extended life and close temperature control (this continuous running condensing unit ensures precise temperature control by alternating cycling refrigerant and hot gas to coil; this also prolongs life of compressor, and eliminates risk of ice buildup in coil)
  • Top mounted refrigeration system allows easy access for maintenance (e.g. cleaning)
  • As heat is rejected, it rises and is dissipated into room without having any effect on inside temperature of cabinet.
  • Solenoid valves have extended stem for quiet and long life operation
  • Ceiling mounted evaporator coils incorporate twin air circulation fans in aluminum housing

Temperature Safety Limit Controls

  • Experiment Protection: Adjustable high and low temperature controls, audible alarms, and visual indicators provided
  • Controls shut down all power to chamber, activating alarms (when the temperature returns to the normal range the system will automatically reset)
